ASF: Assignable Square Footage (occupiable areas). A University of California facilities term denoting the total floor area of a room or other area capable of being assigned to an occupant or user. The term excludes corridors and other indoor circulation space, custodial closets, mechanical rooms, public toilets and vehicle parking areas.
ADP: Average Daily Population. Average daily population estimates include students, employees, patients and visitors, and account for typical employee absences due to vacation, sick leave, and routine needs to be at other sites.
CEQA: California Environmental Quality Act. The State of California public resource code, which requires public agencies to consider and disclose to the public, the environmental implications of their actions before approving a new project or program. CEQA review provides decision makers with complete information about the effects of a project and presents mitigation measures or project alternatives that reduce or avoid adverse environmental impacts. California Public Resources Code Sections 21000 et seq.
CIB: Capital Improvement Budget
CIP: Capital Improvement Program. The program is the primary vehicle for implementing proposals and projects described in the LRDP. It lists the campus proposals for construction projects which are more than $400,000. (Excluded from the list are maintenance or renewal projects). The CIP typically covers three-, five- and ten-year periods. [See also: Capital Improvement Program]
CPFM: Capital Projects & Facilities Management is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all UCSF facilities, and the management of campus renovation and construction projects. The department consists of three primary divisions that provide services to the UCSF campus in the following areas. DEC: Decompression, expansion and consolidation. The overarching theme of the 1996 Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) is to meet current and future space needs by providing space for these three purposes. The need is for relief of excess crowding, space for new programs and fewer dispersed unit sites.
EH&S: Environmental Health and Safety. Administrative unit that is responsible for helping UCSF maintain a safe and healthy workplace. It provides training to UCSF personnel, develops and implements health and safety procedures, monitors programs, maintains records and maintains an emergency response program.
EIC: Environmental Impact Classification (EIC or EIC Form). [See: Environmental Impact Classification]
EIR: Environmental Impact Report. A level of CEQA review that is prepared when a proposed project or program could have a significant adverse effect on the environment. The Regents require that all LRDP proposals (and major amendments to LRDP proposals) are analyzed in an EIR. The document must be circulated for public comment (including a public hearing) and all comments must be responded to prior to approval.
GSF: Gross Square Footage. A University of California facilities term denoting the sum of all floor areas, finished and unfinished, on all floors of an enclosed structure. This definition includes categories of assignable, custodial circulation, mechanical, public toilets, parking and space under construction. It excludes spaces such as attics without flooring, mezzanines, exterior courts, and balconies.
LRDP: Long Range Development Plan. A broad, comprehensive plan expressing policy, as approved by The Regents, on future physical development to achieve institutional goals.
PPG: Project Planning Guide. A University of California reporting document that outlines the scope and budget of a proposed capital project.
